BOMBA:

Bomba is an important part of PuertoRico's African ancestral practices dating back to the 17th century, preserved and maintained by enslaved and free people of color. It's an Afro–Puerto Rican dance rooted in resistance, community, and ancestral memory. Originating from enslaved Africans in Puerto Rico, it centers the dancer as the lead, engaging in a powerful call-and-response with the drummer. Through grounded movement, improvisation, and rhythmic dialogue, Bomba becomes a space for self-expression and storytelling. More than a dance, Bomba is a living cultural practice that affirms identity, resilience, and collective joy.

FESTEJO:

Students will learn and celebrate Afro-Peruvian traditional rhythm and dance of Festejo. This class leads students from the root, history & ritual of the dance to a high fiesta energy of "la jarana".
